First Time Buyer's Guide

Are you thinking of buying a water feature, but don’t know the first thing about how to set one up? Don’t worry, it’s easier than you think. From the simple lightweight polyresin fountains, to the multi-tiered heavy cast iron fountains, we’re here to help guide you through the process.

We use the terms ‘Water Feature’ and ‘Fountains’ interchangeably, so feel free to refer to your feature as either one. All of our water features come with a pump, this is what will circulate your water from inside the reservoir at the bottom of your feature, to the spout at the top. All water features may look different, but they all work the same.

Your water feature will have some tubing inside the feature (pictured below). This is where you will connect the pump for water circulation. You do not require any kind of special plumbing, as the fountains are self-contained.

If your water feature has lights or a low voltage pump, chances are it will have a transformer. Your water feature will have a two-pin connector that needs to be connected to the transformer, which will then be connected to power.. The transformer is to be left outside of the water feature.

Our water features come with at least a one-year warranty on the pumps, with a two year warranty on Reefe branded pumps.

DO

DON’T

  • Submerge the pump inside the reservoir.

  • Have a flat level surface. If your surface is uneven, it can cause your water feature to crack from pressure.

  • Get some water plants for your feature. They will bring natural beauty to your feature.

  • If you're looking for a water feature with a lot of sound, look for a feature with lots of 'drops'.

  • Use chlorine in your feature, this will void any warranties as it can deteriorate your pump.

  • Submerge the transformer in water.

  • Leave the feature running 24/7. Your fountain will excessively splash, meaning you will need to fill it up more often, and run the risk of burning out the motor.

Maintenance:

Fountains can be maintained with a regular cleaning schedule, this will help clear algae build-up and keep your fountain looking beautiful.

We recommend the following routine for a fountain clean every 6 months:

  • Turn your water feature off, so no power is going to the pump or lights.
  • Remove the pump from the feature and leave it aside, making sure the electric parts don't get wet.
  • Drain the water from the reservoir.
  • Scrub the water feature with a sponge and a small amount of water and dishwashing liquid.
  • Allow the feature and pump to dry for up to 6 hours. This will eliminate any left-over algae that need moisture.
  • Connect the pump back to the water feature and fill it back up with water.

We sell additional products like Pondmax 3-in-1 Solution that can help clear algae and reduce how often your feature needs to be cleaned. These products are safe for plants and aquatic animals.

We recommend you also spray the feature with a clear sealer every 6 months to prevent any paint damage.
